Raw Word Archive is an experimental publication on typography and the zeigeist that archived words that are reflecting ideas and thoughts about the current. In the publication, forty-five words are archived. On each page, a word is typographically expressed and presented with a short example sentence that describes the context of the word. Structurally, the publication is a half-folded pile of papers without binding. It gives a possibility to rearrange, combine the words in a different way. The publication contributes to the responsibility of type designers to present How? And in what form the words should be written today?

The features ables the typeface to create many different styles depends on how the designer combines the different widths and style sets. The typeface was made for my own purpose. The typeface was used for some of my poster works and also in the domain of music and fashion.

Created a new key visual for the Oslonight 2019 poster, retaining the festival identity and poster system, I designed in 2018. Oslonight always aims to have a fresh and cultural context. Watergun is an object of joy and refreshment and, at the same time, a kitsch object with unique aesthetics. I tried to capture the object vividly and freshly to present the idea of Oslonight.

Oslonight is an annual cultural festival in Basel hosted by HeK, the Haus der Elektronischen Künste Basel. I was asked to design a visual identity and a poster, including applications for the event. I created a graphic symbol made of the letter O and N, which are the initials of the OsloNight. Based on the symbol, I developed the poster layout and the design system that use the graphical symbol as a frame for a key visual that will changes each year. For the first year, the abstract photography of the fruits was taken and used to convey the freshness and inspiring feelings of the event.

This is a Master thesis project I conducted during my study at the Basel School of Design. The project investigates the alternative ways of reduction in photography and presents 16 different methods of reduction mainly by focusing on reducing the object itself. As a result, I exhibited a series of photographs and archived the whole process into a publication, “This is Also Reduction .”

This is a design research that deals with a concept and basics of using clothes as a medium of content in graphic design. Today, clothing has become a medium of graphic design, and fashion is aggressively taking the graphic design approach on the clothing. Based on such a situation, this research experimented with the positions and different forms of contents on the clothes and observed the effect and changes made on the relationship between the content and the person who is wearing it.

This is the research paper that discusses the interesting phenomenon of visual communication methods and on editorial contents of today’s fashion industry by analyzing a particular online fashion mall SSENSE. Today, fashion is not only about the design or trend of the clothes themselves. However, fashion becomes closer to the form of the integrated art that deals with the most contemporary zeitgeist, art, aesthetics, social issues, etc. SSENSE, the research material of this paper, is a great case study of this phenomenon. The online fashion mall has a very significant difference and distinctive approach in web design and the way they create the editorial content related to contemporary fashion. I focused on analyzing the methods, benefits, and the possibilities of such an approach in the research paper.

This project is a visual experiment of translating a contemporary object into imageries. One of the most recent and technical sneakers from Nike, the Vapormax Plus has many contemporary visual elements in the shoe itself. The colors, materials, shapes of the shoe reflect the image trend of one of the most contemporary visual culture. I tried to reinterpret the visual characters of the shoe and make a translation from object to images. I used the means of photography, graphics, digital technics. The outputs and approaches of the research are made into a website as an experiment report.

This a set of publications based on the question, “How graphic designers can contribute to art or artist?” The original project was to design the gallery book for the artist, but instead, this publication took the experimental approach of re-interpreting the artwork from the graphic designer’s perspective for the more productive result that can inspire both artist and graphic designers. Based on the artwork and the explanation of the Zürich based artist Hae young, Ji, the project produced 16 experiments and archived it into the form of a box of laboratory-style publications.

“Fonts for Freedom” is a campaign that claims for press freedom by the Reporters Without Borders and Service Plan Hamburg. I was invited to create a poster as a part of the campaign, along with nine famous typographers and designers. The poster was designed using a typeface from the Hungarian newspaper, Magyar Nemzet, that shut down by the government. The font of the newspaper title and the slogan were given. I used initials of the newspaper title and used chain and metallic graphics to represent both the suppression as well as the solid power of the press. The poster was released in the social media accounts of each designer and of the Reporters Without Borders.

A poster for an design exhibition by “Be There Design Festival” in Hong Kong on the theme “Homeland.” I approached considering the contemporary concept of a homeland and thought that the Internet plays the role of the homeland today. A smartphone, which is the main access gate to the Internet and a word “Here” were used as a main element. The mixture of a photograph hands holding a smartphone and expressive letters says “here” is visually reflecting today’s complex and diverse media environment.
